How to bleach a wedding dress at home or why yellowing cannot be avoided. How to bleach things at home

You can whiten your underwear quickly and effortlessly using industrial bleaches. It is better to buy oxygen products: they do not contain chlorine, which means they do not destroy the fibers of delicate materials. Such bleaches can be used in machine washing, which is a definite plus for modern housewives. But oxygen bleaches also have a disadvantage - price.

Well, what if you urgently need to remove old yellow stains from your bra, but you don’t have bleach on hand? Or the grayness remains after the store-bought product. Try traditional time-tested methods of whitening.

3 “grandmother’s” methods for cotton

Don't know how to wash and bleach your bra and return it to its original appearance? Refer to the experience of your grandmothers. How did the older generation of housewives bleach their panties and bras? Chlorine, boiling water and blue. Although the methods may seem outdated, they can outperform any modern bleach in terms of efficiency. Please note that boiling, soaking in chlorine, and using blue dye are only permissible for cotton. Other fabrics will be hopelessly damaged.

Boiling

Peculiarities . Boiling can whiten white panties from yellow stains and get rid of grayness and faded stains. It takes time and suitable equipment - an enamel container, a wooden spatula for stirring.

Instructions

  1. Line the bottom of the pan with a white cloth.
  2. Rub half a bar of laundry soap into the poured water. Lather up.
  3. Send the grayed set into a soapy solution.
  4. Place the container on the fire, boil for half an hour, stirring regularly with a wooden spatula.
  5. Rinse in cold water.

If the bra is “stale” and looks deplorable, prepare a soap-soda solution for boiling or add ammonia. Additional substances should be taken in two tablespoons.

Soaking in white

Peculiarities . A very effective method: you can wash a faded white bra, stubborn traces of sweat, and various stains. Returns the original white color, as if the linen was just purchased. The product contains chlorine, so you need to work with it carefully - wearing a mask and gloves. Chlorinated bleach should not be used in the machine.

Instructions

  1. Mix water (3 liters), white (tablespoon) and powder (tablespoon).
  2. Immerse your panties and bust in the resulting solution.
  3. Do not touch for half an hour.
  4. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly in warm and cold water alternately.

It is often impossible to access the method. Chlorine thins fabric fibers. If you get carried away with the bleaching method, your linen will wear out quickly.

Application of blue

Peculiarities . Finding blue is not easy. They no longer sell it in pharmacies, but you can order it in an online store. It costs a penny, but it whitens effectively. Using the product, you can wash white panties from grayness and get rid of yellow stains. Can be used to prevent the appearance of yellowness.

Instructions

  1. Add blue water to water at room temperature (proportions are usually indicated by the manufacturer). Stir thoroughly.
  2. Soak the laundry in the solution for 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse several times.

You need to stir the blue really thoroughly. If grains of the product remain in the water, the owner will be in for an unpleasant surprise: blue stains will appear on her underwear, which are almost impossible to remove.

3 rules to keep white

White color quickly loses its attractiveness: it fades, looks “washed out” and unkempt. Although bleaching can save your favorite set, if you use it often, the fabric can become thinner, especially delicate ones. Remember three rules, and then you won’t have to frequently expose your white underwear to bleach.

  1. Wear it correctly. White underwear sets are designed to be worn under light-colored clothing. Don't wear a white bra under a dark T-shirt. Not only because it’s bad manners, but also because the “neighborhood” with dark fabric makes the white one turn gray.
  2. Wash properly. You should always follow the recommendations for a specific type of fabric. It is advisable to wash laundry made from delicate materials by hand. You cannot load white clothes into the machine with colored clothes - the snow-whiteness is lost. It is also better to wash panties made from different fabrics separately, otherwise the white color will fade. Water above 40°C is one of the reasons why white turns gray.
  3. Store correctly. Snow-white linen should be stored separately from colored linen: this way the same snow-whiteness will be preserved. You should not allow it to “stale”: this will cause the linen to turn yellow. Send the bra to the locker only after making sure that it is dry: humidity is the main “companion” of gray. In addition, humidity creates a musty smell.

Try to remove yellow stains from your bra as soon as they appear. Fresh traces of sweat can be dealt with using oxygen-containing laundry detergent intended for white items. The longer things remain gray, the longer they have yellow spots on them, the higher the likelihood that they will not be saved.

Linen is bleached in cases where it has a grayish or yellowish tint and washing does not provide sufficient whiteness.

Hydrogen peroxide is used for bleaching.

Washed laundry is dipped into this solution for 15-20 minutes, mixed well so that the laundry is bleached evenly. In this case, the laundry must be completely immersed in liquid, otherwise unequal whiteness may result in different places of the fabric.

Bleaching should be done in enamel or aluminum containers.

After bleaching, the laundry is washed twice in water, wrung out and dried as usual.

Hydrogen peroxide decomposes during long-term storage, especially in light and open air, so it should be stored in a closed glass container, in a dark place and away from heating devices.

Washing and bleaching lace and tulle items

Before washing, lace and tulle items are shaken off dust and then soaked in warm softened water (1 tablespoon of soda per bucket of water) for 2-3 hours. During the soaking process, the water is changed 2-3 times.

Soaked items are washed 2 times in a warm soapy solution with plenty of foam, lightly squeezing with your hands. It is better to use soap flakes or Novost powder for washing.

After washing, the items are thoroughly washed in clean warm water, and then in cold water and blued.

To make things more white, they are bleached. For bleaching, take 1-2 tablespoons of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon of ammonia per bucket of hot water.

The bleach solution is poured into enamel or aluminum containers at the rate of 7-8 liters of liquid per 1 kilogram of laundry. Things are soaked in this solution for 15-20 minutes, mixed well several times, and then washed in warm and cold water.

This method can be used to bleach any cotton and linen.

If hydrogen peroxide is not available, you can bleach with bleach. The bleaching solution is prepared as follows. Bleached lime (about 3 teaspoons of powder per 2 kilograms of things) is moistened with a small amount of water, rubbed with a spoon or stick until a homogeneous paste-like mass (without pieces), and then 1 liter of cold water is added.

Separately, dissolve 2 teaspoons of soda in a glass of hot water, pour into the bleach solution and stir well.

A cloudy, white liquid is formed, which is allowed to stand for 1-2 hours, after which the upper, clean, transparent solution is drained, and the remaining sediment is discarded.

If there are pieces of bleach floating on top of the solution, filter the liquid through a cloth.

The resulting solution is diluted with warm water at the rate of 1 liter of solution per bucket of water and things are immersed in it.

During bleaching, things are stirred, making sure that they are completely immersed in the solution.

After 15-20 minutes, the items are removed from the solution and thoroughly washed 2-3 times in clean water until the smell of chlorine disappears. To better remove chlorine, it is recommended to add 1-2 teaspoons of vinegar to the water per bucket of water.

Some lace and tulle items, such as curtains, are recommended to be starched.

After starching, the curtains are wrung out, squeezing out the starch by hand (but without twisting the item) and dried in a stretched form on a mat or stretched onto a special frame.

Tulle curtains should be ironed semi-dry.

After rinsing, lace items are rolled into a dry, clean sheet and ironed after 15-20 minutes.
