No padding is required since the denim itself is a thick material. The handles are made from a jeans belt or from a worn out leather bag. But you need lining fabric, it is cut to a similar size. In addition, you need:

zipper;
two strips of material 36x16 cm to make the bottom;
threads;
ruler;
pencil;
pins for fixation;
material with an adhesive base.

How to sew a patchwork bag correctly: step by step instructions:

an internal pocket is sewn to the lining fabric;
A design is applied to the paper, and the patches are marked with some kind of sign so as not to confuse the colors. A pattern is also applied to the material for the outer part so that you know where to sew the patches. Then the flaps are pinned with tailor's pins;
The shreds are attached to the main part with small stitches. This turns out to be the face of the product;
Backing sheets are applied to the main parts, front to front. The top part is shaped first to avoid raw edges;
the sewing is laid out and straight lines are drawn using a ruler and chalk, departing from the edge approximately 1 cm. The seam connecting the parts will run along these lines;
the parts are placed face to face and pinned together;
sewn in such a way that a part remains unstitched for turning the bag inside out;
the product is turned inside out, the hole is sewn up, the lower corners are turned over and stitched;
It is advisable to put plastic between the cut strips for the bottom for rigidity;

Now open the jeans and transfer the sketches to the surface of the fabric from the wrong side. Cut four squares and four rectangles from the jeans. Please note that each element must have a reserve length to create seam allowances, so leave approximately 1 cm at the edges.

To enhance the strength of the handle, it is better to think about what will be the basis for holding the bag. The best option is a wide chain. Weave the finished denim strips through it and secure the material at the edges.

To sew such a bag, stock up on denim pants (it’s better to take wider pants), fabric for lining, accessories for decoration, a needle, thread, pins (including safety pins), scissors and lace.

Main stages:

As a lining for such a handbag, you can use multi-colored cotton fabric.

Make the lining longer to turn the top out or use it to trim some areas of the backpack.

Sew the two lining pieces together and secure it around the outside of the bag with pins. The lining fabric will be tucked inside with the front part. Sew the edge, leaving a half-centimeter indentation, and make another shock, retreating about seven centimeters from the border.

Tuck in the lining.

You determine the size of the lining part that will be on the outside yourself. The lining should be secured from the inside. From the outside, stitch the fabric again at a distance of two and a half centimeters from the outer border. This is where the lace will be attached.

All that remains is to make a hole on the outside of the bag and thread the lace inside using a safety pin. With its help, the handbag will be easy to close. The backpack for everyday walks is ready!

Shoulder bag

You can also make a roomy bag from the top of your jeans. For this you will additionally need a tie, brooch, pins and scissors. We will sew the bag on a sewing machine.

I’ve been wanting to make myself a denim handbag for a long time, and yesterday I got one from unwanted jeans. The handle is adjustable in length, so there are 3 options for handbags: cross-body, shoulder and waist bag.

To sew a bag we will need: denim fabric (I have fabric from unwanted old jeans), doublerin or non-woven fabric to seal the fabric (I used thin padding polyester, since I have a lot of leftovers), a 25 cm zipper, a carabiner for bags 2 pcs, 1 frame -regulator, 2 half rings or belt loops (I didn’t find them in the right color and used 2 frames), thread, scissors, pins, measuring tape.

I will sew a handbag from denim strips of different shades. Cut 4 strips for each side of the bag. 8 strips measuring 24x5.5 cm.

We sew the strips together and iron them. From the bottom on both sides we cut off the corners, making the bottom of the bag rounded. The pattern for the front and back sides of the handbag is 23x18 cm. According to this pattern, the finished size of the handbag is 22x16 cm.

We seal both sides of the bag. Cut the padding polyester to a slightly larger size, place the fabric on it and iron it (through gauze or a scarf). The padding polyester will stick a little to the fabric and become thin.

The sides of the bag need to be quilted. Sew along the edge of the stripes and along the entire edge of the denim.

Cut off the excess padding around the edges. We do this with both parts of the handbag.

We cut out 2 more such parts from denim or other fabric (for the lining/inside of the bag).

I will have 2 small pockets on both sides of the lining. For them, I cut 2 rectangles 16x11 cm, folded the edges inward, ironed them and sewed them in the center.

Then we cut 2 more strips of 23x6 cm from denim.

We bend the strip with the right side inward and sew along the sides, where it is marked with dotted lines.

Turn it right side out and iron it. Same with both stripes.

Now we connect the outer and inner sides of the handbag and these strips. We place a strip on the part of the front side of the bag, on them there is a part for the inside of the bag (with the right sides facing in) and stitch where it is marked with a dotted line.

It turns out like this.

For the side of the bag, cut 2 strips measuring 52x6 cm.

We also seal the strip for the front side, as well as the main parts of the front side of the handbag.

Now you need to connect both sides of the bag to the side.

To do this, first sew the front side of the side to one side of the bag, then to the other.

Then we also sew the inner side panel to the inside of the bag, leaving an 8 cm hole.

Through this hole we turn the bag right side out and sew it up.

Now we make fastenings for half rings or frames on the sides of the handbag. For them, we cut strips of 5x8 cm. We bend them with the larger sides and stitch them from the wrong side.

Turn it right side out, iron it and insert it into a half ring or frame. It is better to immediately stitch where it is marked with a dotted line.

Received details. (attachments for the handle) we insert on the sides of the bag between the layers of fabric, bending the sidewall layers inward.

Sew in 2 lines for security.

We sew the zipper to the stripes that we sewed between the front and inside of the bag. I didn’t find a zipper with a slider in the right color, I’ll change it later when I buy it.

You can hide the tip of the zipper using a denim strip. Then we hide it inside the bag.

All that remains is to make a handle; it will be adjustable in length. To do this, cut a strip of the desired size (the size depends on your preferences and height). The average strip length for such a pen is from 100 to 130 cm. In my case, 105x8 cm.

We compact it. We also place the fabric on the padding polyester and iron it (through a scarf or gauze). The synthetic winterizer will become thinner and stick a little to the fabric.

The strip needs to be quilted and the excess padding polyester cut off at the edges.

We bend the strip along its entire length and stitch it from the wrong side, where it is marked with dotted lines.

Turn it right side out, iron it and stitch again.

We bend the edges on the other side inward and stitch again along the entire length. We iron it so that our strap becomes thinner. Let's start assembling the adjustable handle for our bag using 2 carabiners and a frame.

We insert one of the ends of the handle into the hole of the carabiner, bend the tip and sew it where it is marked with a dotted line.

We thread the second tip of the handle into the frame, then into the hole of the second carabiner and sew the tip of the handle to the middle part of the frame (the video above and my YouTube channel show it in more detail).

What kind of patterns are there:

one-piece bag pattern (lid + back) - the entire pattern area;
the front of the bag is everything below the side insert;
width of the side insert - we will sew the side part into the bag, this is its width. The length is the length of the outline of the front (excluding the straight top).

As for the side insert: it should consist of two equal parts, the direction of the pile of which will be directed against each other. But this is only for fur! From fleece, simply cut one strip of the required width; you can ignore the direction of the pile.

How to sew a bag: a detailed master class

First of all, we will work on the side of our product.

Take two pieces of fur side and sew them together along the edge. Sew them so that the pile of the pieces is directed towards each other.

Why do I suggest doing this? I answer: fur has a long pile, which should go in one direction. And this can be achieved just by sewing two pieces together

Trim off any excess. And sew the side part to the front of our future bag.

Now let's make a strap for the bag. To do this, cut three strips of fur of such length that it will be convenient for you to then put the strap on your shoulder. Weave them into a braid (tie at the end and at the beginning so that it does not come apart).

Remember we left holes for fasteners? Now you need to insert the resulting braid into them and carefully sew it up with a hidden seam.

But our bag doesn’t have fastenings yet! There are several options: you can sew in a zipper (which is better to do earlier), you can use Velcro and buttons.
I decided to go with the last option.

Cut two black circles larger in diameter than the button from black fleece and take the button.

Place a little padding polyester on the button.

And into a fleece circle, along the edge of which run a running stitch without securing:

Glue a small rhinestone highlight on the front.

Now place the clasp on the lid of the bag to see where you will need to cut the loop.
