Features of knitting mittens with knitting needles with patterns, jacquard, embroidery. Schemes and descriptions.

Winter frosts and snow delight adults and children. There are so many fun things you can do - sledding, skiing, snowballs, and just walking.

It’s even better to choose an interesting model of mittens and knit them with your own hands for yourself and your whole family/friends.

Handicraft is not only about creating things with your own hands, but also about transferring your mood, energy and thoughts to them. And for the craftswoman it’s time to slow down, meditate, and open up storehouses of love, which she then so joyfully gives to her family.

Before you start knitting mittens, remove them correctly on your hands.

How to knit simple mittens for men and women with knitting needles without a seam?

simple unisex model of mittens knitted

Knit mittens for an adult without a pattern on 5 knitting needles, or in the so-called grandma’s way.

For them choose:

  • front or back stitch
  • shawl pattern

Make the cuffs using 1x1, 2x2 rib or alternating knit and purl rows.

Before starting work, take measurements of your hands. Read in detail.

Knit a sample on 10 loops and 10 rows with an elastic band and the main pattern and convert the centimeters into loops. Be sure to take into account the multiple of 4 of the original number of loops. Then you will have the same number of needles on all needles.

The pattern for working on the stealth is to knit a pipe for the palm and fingers and separately for the thumb.

The toe of the mittens is:

  • house
  • semicircular

The difference lies in the method of decreasing the loops. In the first case - on the sides of the outer and inner parts of the mitten, in the second - through 1 loop throughout the entire row.

on the girl’s hands there are openwork mittens made with knitting needles

Women's mittens with openwork patterns, knitted, can also warm your hands from the cold. The secret lies in the naturalness of the thread. Choose 100% wool or mohair for these models.

Features of openwork mittens:

  • knitting a pattern with yarn overs is carried out only on their back side. The inner one is done using stockinette stitch,
  • the need for a stage of work on a control sample for the correct calculation of the loops of the product in its different parts,
  • the presence of wide cuffs so that the mittens do not slide down on your hands

The pearl pattern is simple to perform, but provides products with:

  • volume
  • warm
  • beauty
  • practicality
  • light combination with decorative elements, such as buttons, crocheted flowers

Are you just planning to pick up knitting needles and knit mittens for yourself? Feel free to choose a pearl pattern as the basis for them.

Make the cuffs with an elastic band, for example, 2x2 to a height of 8-10 cm. Then your mittens will fit tightly on your wrists.

The pearl pattern, or “rice”, or “corn” consists of alternating knit and purl stitches, over which a purl and knit stitch are made.

As an example, let’s add one of the descriptions of knitting women’s mittens with a pearl pattern.

How to knit warm double mittens with knitting needles for men and women?

warm knitted double mittens not assembled

This model of mittens is many times warmer than single-layer ones.

To knit it, follow the steps:

  • select yarn for the outer and inner layers. It will be convenient if it is of different colors.
Thin mohair is also suitable for the outer mitten if you decide to decorate it with openwork motifs. And for the inner - wool or wool mixture, even from loose products,
  • to contrast the openwork pattern, make the inner mitten from darker/lighter yarn than the outer one,
  • if you love braids and decide to knit them on the outside of the mitten, then for the inside, only the front stitch is enough,
  • take measurements and draw a diagram taking into account the difference in the parameters of the outer and inner mittens. The first is necessarily larger and wider than the second by 0.7-1 cm,
  • convert the centimeters into loops and mark them on the diagram,
  • pick up your knitting needles and start knitting,
  • After completing the outer mitten, return to its first row on the cuff and pick up the loops with your hook. Continue working on the inside,
  • Consider placing your thumb on one side for the outer and inner halves of the mitten.

If you are knitting a double pattern, consisting of 2 independent mittens, which are put on one another, any patterns and descriptions of work will suit you. Add your creativity and delight your hands with warmth.

Knitted mittens for lovers: photo, diagram with description

spring mittens for lovers knitted with hearts

Interesting models of mittens for lovers attract needlewomen with their originality of execution and scope for creativity in decoration.

Since a man and woman in love walk hand in hand, they need 3 mittens:

  • one per free hand
  • one common large

Knit the first ones in different sizes if the hands of a man and a woman are very different in parameters. Otherwise, matching mittens will do. Products knitted with knitting needles stretch well, so young people with almost identical hands will feel comfortable wearing them.

Do the second one like this:

  • tie the cuffs of 2 mittens either in series or in parallel with one thread,
  • combine both fabrics on the same knitting needles and switch to general circular knitting. Break the thread on one mitten, leaving a tail of 5 cm. There are models where general knitting begins 3-5 cm after the cuff,
  • cut the loops in the middle of the overall fabric and then for the toe.

  • practicality
  • originality
  • ease of use with fingers
  • warmth for the entire hand

Both men and women like these types of mittens.

In addition to the usual mitts, above which there is a flap for the fingers, needlewomen came up with a model with a similar folding “house” for the thumb. She has loose fingers like gloves. Therefore, the reliability of fixing the mitten on your hands is ensured.

How to knit warm mittens with knitting needles using an English elastic band for women?

women's mittens knitted with English elastic

English elastic gives the product warmth and volume. It is simple to perform, but requires carefulness and attentiveness of the needlewoman during work.

To ensure that your mittens keep their shape and remain beautiful, knit them on 2 knitting needles and then sew along the edge of the palm.

Main stages of work:

  • take measurements, knit control samples of the fabric and draw a diagram of the mittens,
  • when knitting loosely with English rib, take knitting needles thinner than yarn,
  • To keep the mitten fabric soft, work without edge loops,
  • knit the thumb using stockinette stitch. For harmony, use it to also use the toe of the mitten,
  • Sew the mitten with a crochet hook without over-tightening the loops. This way the seam will remain soft and will not interfere with your wear.

Women's mittens with rhombuses and arans, long knitting needles: pattern diagrams with descriptions

Aranas, thanks to multiple weaves, look beautiful on a long fabric. Therefore, start knitting mittens with this pattern 15 cm below the wrist.

For example, insert rhombuses in the center of the canvas, and a “rice” pattern inside them. This way your mittens will gain beauty and originality, and your hands will be warm.

Be careful when preparing your yarn for these patterns. It is needed more due to the multiple weaves of loops.

Below are several patterns of aran patterns for women's mittens and descriptions of knitting the latter.

Its diagram is below:

Thanks to the crossing of loops in the front rows, the fabric comes out quite dense and keeps its shape.

Be sure to knit a control sample and correctly calculate the number of loops for the mittens. Otherwise, they risk becoming childish due to the narrowing of the fabric during knitting.

Knitting mittens braid with shadow: pattern diagram with description

cute ready-made mittens with a braid pattern with a shadow lie on the table

Another voluminous pattern for warm mittens is braids with shadow. There are fewer weaves in it than in wicker, and it also slightly compresses the fabric, but the beauty of the result will not leave the needlewoman indifferent.

Braids with shadow are performed in 2 ways:

  • ordinary
  • "grandmother's"

The difference is in the frequency of the rows with interlacing loops. In the first case - through the front row, in the second - in every 5th.

The pattern repeat is 12 loops, which is especially convenient for knitting mittens.

How to knit warm men's and women's mittens from thick yarn?

white mittens knitted from thick yarn

Choose thick wool yarn for knitting warm men's and women's mitten models and knitting needles to match it. That is, No. 5-7 and no thinner.

Choose the main pattern from simple ones, for example, front or back stitch, figured front designs among the back ones.

Consider the knitting density of the control sample to calculate the loops for the mittens. The total number will be very different from the usual use of ordinary yarn.

Elastic for cuffs is also relevant for mittens made of thick thread.

Otherwise, the operating procedure is similar to any description that is understandable to you.

How to knit warm downy mohair mittens with knitting needles: pattern diagram

fluffy knitted mohair mittens on a girl's hands

Goat wool in knitting threads is so soft and fluffy that you want to use it to create warm mittens for the winter.

The thread itself is thinner, for example, acrylic or wool. Therefore, carefully select the knitting needles for it.

To knit beautiful mohair mittens, pay attention to the following points:

  • a large number of purl rows causes a pattern failure on such yarn,
  • pattern. Openwork inserts are acceptable. Because of the fluff of the yarn, your hands will still be warm,
  • knitting density. Keep it moderate without constriction.

Video: how to knit princess mittens with knitting needles?

For those who love fun accessories and appreciate going beyond the classics, flip-top mittens can be just that wardrobe staple. Mittens by themselves are one of the main attributes of winter, and even in combination with gloves or with the ability to touch something with your fingers without taking them off. After all, accessibility of fingers is necessary for many people when working with the phone, getting money, etc. Exactly what is interesting and unusual will certainly become one of the popular accessories in the winter.

Such mittens can be knitted either with knitting needles or with a crochet hook, which will ultimately give the mittens an openwork look. Many beginners believe that only those who are proficient in knitting can master such mittens. But that's not true. You just need to follow the instructions, then everything will work out. In addition, mittens can be decorated with various buttons, snaps, ribbons, beads, and zippers.

First option

This master class provides a detailed description with which you can crochet an interesting colored mitten with a folding top. To knit such a mitten, you don’t need to spend a lot of time, and even more so, the work is worth sitting down for a couple of evenings and making a masterpiece with your own hands.

What you need to knit these mittens:

  • Bambino thread 100% acrylic 200 m per 50 g, and we need one skein of turquoise color, 30 g of burgundy and white;
  • hook number 3;
  • two pieces of buttons.

To knit the back part, make a chain of 32 chain buttonholes. Next, we tie this chain on both sides with single crochets. To turn the work and knit on the other side, you need to knit three single crochets into the last buttonhole. Then you need to knit in two directions - forward and reverse, changing the colors of the threads for 12 rows, while in each row we make an increase of three times two single crochets.

For the second side of the mitten, you need to cast on 6 air buttonholes and similarly knit up to the 12th row. In the next row we knit in a circle, and in the corners we make one single crochet. Now we knit the lower part of the palm, for this you need to cast on 26 chain buttonholes. We should knit 13 single crochets in one direction, and 4 in the other.

To knit the first half of the thumb in the fifth row, you need to knit 14 single crochets, a chain of 7 chain buttonholes, knit in straight and reverse rows, and so on for 8 rows. Next, cut the thread. To knit the second half of the finger, we attach a thread to the last of the 7 buttonholes, then we knit 7 single crochets and a further 12 columns of the main part, and we knit 7 rows in straight and reverse rows. In the last row, we connect the first seven single crochets with the first seven single crochets during the knitting process.

Now you need to connect the parts using single crochets. While we are making a buttonhole, we cast on 15 air buttonholes. We knit the top tag using a two-by-two elastic band. We need to knit a row with a single crochet, alternating two by two concave and convex, and so we knit three rows. In the same way, we tie the bottom of the mitten with such an elastic band - there should be 10 rows. Now we tie the top of the finger and the bottom of the elastic band with single crochets. The final touch will be sewing on the button.

Child model

You always want to do something unusual for your child, and the more creative the item, the more likely the child will want to wear the mittens longer and not take them off in the cold air. And this is the most important thing for every mother. Therefore, in this master class we will learn how to knit mittens with a folding top.

We will knit for a 5-6 year old child. If the child is older or younger, then simply adjust the sizes yourself as you go.

What you need to prepare for mating:

  • “Soufflé” threads, 100% acrylic, 292 meters per 100 grams, where you need 30 grams of brown color and a little beige;
  • 5 knitting needles size 2.5.

We knit according to the pattern using stockinette stitch. And the knitting density will be 20 buttonholes per 27 rows - 10 by 10 cm.

We knit the right mitten. Using a brown thread, cast on 40 buttonholes and distribute them into four, then knit an elastic band one by one to a height of 6 cm. After that, we begin to knit the pattern in stockinette stitch and so on until the 26th row. At the same time, at a height of 3 cm from the elastic on the first knitting needle, we knit 2 buttonholes, and leave eight on an additional knitting needle - this is necessary to start knitting a finger. Then in the next row we pick up the missing 8 loops. When we knit 13 cm, then leave 20 loops on an additional knitting needle. Now we cast on 20 stitches over the remaining loops and include them in the pattern. After only 3 cm, make a toe - knit two buttonholes together at the end of each knitting needle. We knit this way until there are 4 buttonholes left, then we cut the thread and pull it through all the buttonholes, tighten.

Now, from the edge of the cut for the finger, use the main thread to cast on 12 buttonholes, knit them together with the eight loops that remained on the auxiliary knitting needle, while distributing all the loops onto 4 knitting needles. When we reach the middle of the nail, we begin to make decreases in the same way as on the main part. And now on the cut on the back of the hand you need to cast on 20 buttonholes, we knit an elastic band one on one, one and a half centimeters high. We knit the left mitten in the same way.

Video on the topic of the article

This article presents a video selection with which you can learn how to knit a mitten with a folding top.

Residents of central Russia, where in winter they simply cannot do without additional hand insulation, but they no longer need to choose between the functionality of gloves and the warmth of mittens. As a result of the fact that someone very creative combined these two products into one, the result was mittens with a convenient folding top for walking, which are mittens with open fingers and a kind of “hood”. Thanks to the wide variety of patterns, as well as types and colors of yarn, such mittens can be knitted to suit any style of clothing, and this season it is fashionable not to match the color of mittens to the tone of outerwear, but to use them as a self-sufficient model.

Traditionally, such transforming mittens, as they are also called, were used by hunters-fishermen or people working outdoors, since working in mittens is quite difficult, and it is cold in gloves. But due to the widespread use of phones, tablets and other gadgets, such mittens have become popular among all segments of the population.

You need to knit such mittens with knitting needles in the round, as usual, that is, you will need five of them; the yarn can be used of any composition, depending on how warm the product you want to get in the end. The main thing when choosing yarn is that it should be the same thickness.

So, let's start knitting our mittens with a folding top convenient for walking, especially since winter is just around the corner and it's time to warm up.

Master class on making transformable mittens with a folding top

These mittens will be an excellent New Year gift for your beloved man or girlfriend. It is better to take woolen yarn of medium thickness for making them; about 200 grams will be enough to make one pair.

We cast on the required number of loops on the knitting needles and knit the glove in the usual way, leaving about one centimeter short of the beginning of the little finger. After this, we knit one row of purl stitches on the back side of the mitten, and we tie the glove itself in any way convenient for you, while the fingers can either be closed completely or left partially open.

If you knit with threads of a different color, then throw the tail of the main thread to the front side, and tie the glove with other threads.

Now, from the remaining main thread, we cast on the number of loops that were on two knitting needles and knit with an elastic band about one centimeter, but do not make the elastic band too close to the mitten and the last row must be knitted so that if you put the elastic band on your palm, the thread will be on the left.

After we have knitted an elastic band of the required width, we cast on loops from the purl row on the back side of the mitten. In this case, the knitting needle must be inserted under the lower transverse broach of the purl loop, which is closer to the elastic band.

In this way, we cast on as many loops as were originally on two knitting needles.

Now we connect the elastic loops with the cast-on loops on the back side into a ring and continue knitting like a regular mitten.

The mitten is almost ready, all that remains is to tie the thumb, hide all the tails and sew the ends of the elastic.

Mittens, like any other, can be knitted or crocheted. One of the methods of crocheting is that first all the parts of the mitten are knitted separately, namely: the back side, the upper part of the palm, the lower part of the palm and two parts with halves of the thumb, then all these parts are combined into one product, and the top The mittens are tied with single crochets.

Most often, it is not transformable mittens that are crocheted, but openwork mittens, which serve more of an aesthetic function than protection from the cold.

With these simple methods, you can knit a very stylish and functional piece of clothing for yourself or your loved ones in a fairly short period of time, which will be very relevant on the eve of winter. On the Internet you can also find descriptions of other methods of knitting such mittens and choose the one that will be the simplest and most understandable.

Sets of a hat, mittens or transformable mittens and a scarf look very stylish, so if your knitting experience allows you to create such a set, then go ahead and get to work - with such a set of handmade accessories you will definitely not get lost in the crowd.

Video on the topic of the article

In conclusion, we invite you to watch several videos on how to knit mittens with a very comfortable knitted folding top, so that you can start preparing New Year gifts for your friends and relatives now.

Fashionable and very beautiful transforming gloves. Such models are loved not only by teenagers. There are a lot of adult models that are very comfortable. You don't need to take off your gloves to answer a phone call (the sensor doesn't pick up any fabric well), you just need to fold the top down. Or open something (wallet, lock). But we should not forget that the model actually turns out to be very attractive. We present a master class for a women's (children's) transformable glove (with a finger cap), knitted with knitting needles.

Yarn for a mitten glove can be used of medium thickness, since the cap is often made in two threads, and therefore the product is very warm. This product will keep you warm in winter.

In progress stocking needles are more often used, they should only match the thickness of the thread. Additionally, such a model may require buttons and various decorative details.

When knitting with braids, use special knitting needles for making braids or simply additional knitting needles for transferring stitches.

Women's sizes for the product will practically not differ in any way from the regular glove model. These are typical three measurements:

  • palm circle;
  • length from the level of the wrist to the typical line of the tubercle of the thumb;
  • length from the level of the wrist to the typical line of the beginning of the index finger.

An additional measure in such a model will be the length of the convertible top.

How to knit transformable gloves with knitting needles?

Knitting flip-top gloves is not that difficult. In fact, this is half of ordinary gloves and half of mittens. A master and even a beginner can easily handle such products. A small master class on charming knitted items will help them with this. Such models are always suitable for both children and adults.

Pink transformable gloves “cute animals” knitted

Very delicate patterns can be made with knitting needles. The animal's face adorns the convertible top of the transformer. In this model you will learn how to get a beautiful base and applique with openwork motifs without extra threads inside (on the wrong side).

For work use:

  • yarn of a suitable color for the model plus threads for applique;
  • knitting needles according to the thickness of the selected yarn;
  • a button to secure the flap.

Main part

We start knitting the pattern with an elastic band, moving towards the fingers. First you need to make a small sample and calculate the knitting density for it. This is the content of loops and rows of 10 cm. This measure is necessary to determine the required size of the product.

Make the elastic from the elastic pattern 1*1. To do this, make an appropriate set of loops. Continue knitting in the round without changing the pattern. Knit to the wrist line and knit another similar part for a small bend.

Important! Do not knit the thumb yet, but insert a contrasting thread along its length.

Continue knitting in the round until the beginning of your index finger. Now divide the knitting into 4 parts. Start knitting each finger and add a few stitches between sets so as not to leave holes between the stitches of the sets. Don’t knit the fingers all the way through, just bind off the stitches..

It is better to use a special elastic technique for closing loops in a row.

Folding part

Make a set of hinges for the folding part. The length will be equal to a set of loops around the circumference of the palm. No additions or subtractions. It is better to knit the folding part with a double thread. The part starts with a 1*1 elastic band. Some craftsmen may not knit this element separately, but make half a set of loops from an already knitted product.

But if you are a beginner, you can do it separately, and then in the assembly simply sew on one edge with plain threads. Knit the required length and start decreasing stitches 2 cm before the end. Decrease 5 stitches in each row. It is better to decrease in a chaotic order so as not to form lines with decreases. In the last row, simply collect all the loops and pull them tighter. Then tie a knot and immediately hide the excess threads.

The convertible top will also require lugs. Knit them from a smaller set of stitches. Use as many loops as there are on one finger of the model. Knit 4 rows and start cutting stitches. Next, after 3 rows, close all the loops, pulling them into one. Sew the ears directly to the base of the convertible top.

Thumb

Pull the contrasting thread out of the thumb loops to create a hole. Pick up loops along the edge so that the fabric does not unravel and create holes. Knit a finger to the required length using circular rows and stockinette stitch. Closing the loops is similar to the other fingers of the hand.

Mittens-gloves (sometimes also called transformers), knitted on knitting needles from warm yarn of different colors, never go out of fashion. Their popularity is explained by the fact that mittens-gloves are very comfortable. They are traditionally associated with the image of a female conductor or market seller, because the original style of mittens-gloves allows you to free your fingers for work (for example, when you need to count money), but at the same time keep your hands warm. The process of knitting such products is very simple; in fact, they are mittens with opening valves that can free your fingers. They come in men's, women's, and children's. These popular open-finger mittens can be knitted or crocheted with a removable top. On the Internet and specialized literature there is a large number of different knitting patterns, equipped with photographs and detailed descriptions.

Before starting to knit such original mittens, a novice craftswoman must prepare everything she needs. So, to knit mittens with a folding top, beginners and more experienced needlewomen will need:

For convenience, ready-made mittens can be equipped with a small button in order to fasten or unfasten the convertible top. Ready-made models of transformable mittens almost always have a button, because it makes wearing such mittens much more convenient. The color of the button should be in harmony with the color of the finished model.

Knitting transformable mittens: general description of work

The technology for knitting flip-top mittens is quite simple and Even a novice needlewoman can easily handle knitting this pattern. The main thing you need to pay attention to when starting to knit and then connect the finished parts into a single whole is that both elements are symmetrical and completely identical. To do this, you need to ensure that the number of rows, the number of loops, and the knitting density of both mittens completely coincide. If you strictly follow the scheme, there should be no unpleasant surprises.

Mitten with flip top consists of several parts: This is the base (consisting of front and back), five fingers and a convertible top. It is recommended to start knitting with the warp, then move to the fingers and finish knitting with a folding top. After the individual fragments of the model are ready, they need to be linked together. The result should be a glove, on which a kind of “hood” is placed, thanks to which the glove can easily be transformed into a finished product. Hence the popular name of this model - "transformable mittens".

In order for your hand-knitted mittens to turn out exactly the same as in the photo, and to avoid any unpleasant surprises during work, you need to keep in mind some practical recommendations.

Mittens with folding top or transformable mittens will serve as an original gift and will not go out of fashion for a long time. This model has enjoyed constant popularity for many seasons in a row due to the fact that such wardrobe elements keep hands warm even in the most severe frost. In addition, they are warmer than ordinary gloves and more comfortable than classic mittens. Both adults and children will wear this model with great pleasure, and novice craftswomen can easily cope with the work. The main thing is patience, attentiveness and a little imagination. Knitting original mittens will not take much time.
