How to make a beautiful feather. Textile feathers. Polymer clay feathers

To make such feathers with your own hands, you need fabric and lace. The fabric needs to be woven, with a clear separation of horizontal and vertical threads (the one that wrinkles - Jeans, Chanel, Glenchek, Houndstooth, Herringbone, Atlas, Linen ...). Choose the size that suits you. A lace is needed one that unravels into 6,8,12 ... threads, consisting of many small threads, like a floss (there are laces that are untwisted into one thread of a floss). It is better to take a thinner lace, but I did not find a thin one, I used a shoe lace. I have flaps about 6cm x 15cm. Cord 23 cm long (for fastening eyelets).

Sew the lace on the fabric in a zigzag, forming a loop on top, pre-thread a ring into the loop. The zigzag should run strictly vertically along the equity. For the durability of the product, I stitched it several times. Do not bring the seam to the bottom of the feather 3 cm.

Untwist this non-stitched edge of the lace, fluff it up, untangle with a comb. From the fabric, one at a time, remove the vertical threads on both sides of the lace.

Use scissors to trim, give the feather a shape - sharp, like an Eagle's or round, like an Owl's or Sparrow's ...

Feather color can be varied by combining different flaps.

In a broad sense, feathers worn by shamans, priests or rulers symbolized a magical connection with the spirit world or divine power and protection.

In Ancient Egypt, the feather is the supreme power, truth, flight, weightlessness, dryness, height. Feathers are an attribute of several gods of the sky, but especially the goddess of truth (justice) Maat, who, with the help of an ostrich feather, weighs the hearts of the dead in the afterlife - an allegory of justice, designed to separate sinful souls from the righteous. Other deities, whose attributes are feathers, also include the solar Amon-Ra and Anheru, Osiris, Horus, Shu, Hator, Apis, Mentu, Nefertium. In Amenti, Osiris weighs the soul, throwing the feathers of truth on the other side of the scale.

In the Christian tradition, according to St. Gregory, feathers symbolize prayer, faith, prayer and expectation. Sometimes they mean virtue, as, for example, in the coat of arms of the Medici family, where three feathers in a ring symbolize faith, hope and mercy.

Among the Scandinavians, the goddess Freya wields a magical feather cape that allows her to fly through the air. A cloak of feathers is an attribute not only of the heavenly gods, such as Freya, but also of the Celtic druids, who tried to use magic to travel outside the material world. For the Celts, the cloaks decorated with feathers worn by the clergy represent the path to another world. Fairies also wear dresses adorned with feathers.

In Taoism, a feather is an attribute of a priest, a "feathered sage" or "feathered visitor", a communication with the other world.

The feathered robes of shamans give the ability to fly to other worlds and take journeys to gain knowledge.

In China, an ornament with motifs of plumage, grain and wood combines opposing concepts into a single symbol: lightness and sublimity, symbolized by plumage, and earthly vitality (the growth of a tree, the seed of which is the prototype of life itself). The snake, covered with the bright green feathers of the Quetzal bird, is considered a symbol of the great Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, as well as his power over heaven and earth.

In North America, it was believed that the headdresses of the leaders, made of feathers, equated them with the Great Spirit and with the power of the gods of air, fire and thunderstorm. The Feathered Sun, a disc with feathers directed both inward and outward, is the symbol of the Cosmos and Center among the plains Indians. Feathers are also a widespread symbol of uplifting prayer; hence the symbolism of the Pueblo's feathered wands, which were used in rituals to cause rain on the solstice days. Among the American Indians, eagle feathers represent the Bird of Thunder, the Great Spirit, the spirit of the universe, and rays of light. In Toltec culture, feathered sticks represent prayer and contemplation.

Wear feathers or feathers whencheski - a sign of taking over the power (mana) of the bird. This allows the wearer to get in touch with the consciousness of the birds ("the little bird told me"), with their transcendental and instinctive knowledge and magical power. Two feathers symbolize light and air, two poles, resurrection. Three feathers are associated with a lily. The feathered crown represents the rays of the sun. The white feather symbolizes clouds, sea foam. The opinion that white feathers are a symbol of cowardice originated in cockfights: such feathers in the tail of a rooster were considered a sign that the bird was devoid of the aggressiveness inherent in purebred fighting roosters. in the past, in the British army, it was associated with cowardice. Such a "gift" was given to soldiers who evaded their direct duties and tried to wait out the battle in the rear. The white feather at that time became a sign of social censure.

Finding a feather on the road is a good sign in most cases. And the find can be turned into a personal amulet that attracts good luck in personal life and family well-being.

Pay attention to the color of the found feather. If it is of medium size, elongated and white, in the coming days you will be faced with a choice - you will have to, without hesitation, give preference to one of two, or even more, options. It could be related to career and family. If you accidentally found it on the street, and especially if a small fluffy white feather fell on you in the literal sense of the word, expect positive changes in your personal life.

According to the legend , sorcerers , with the ability to take on a different look , can turn into any bird , never dove . The dove is associated with the Holy Spirit, so it is believed that the feathers of this bird can be used to protect against all kinds of evil.

Found stork feathers portend great luck - if you carefully store them in the living room at home, then you don't have to worry about family well-being. There is a sign - if an unmarried girl found two stork feathers, she will be married in the same year. If she keeps these feathers, her family life will be happy, and there will be no problems with having children.

Did you pick up all sorts of feathers in childhood? Yes? After all, they are so diverse, attractive, of different colors, lengths and shapes, fluffy or thin, neat. Feathers are an incredible work of nature, a symbol of lightness, which is always useful if you are a lover of needlework, if you like decorating and decorating. But in order not to injure the birds by pulling the most beautiful feathers from their tails, let's try to make them ourselves.

How to make a pen out of paper?

Very simple, for this we need:

  • a sheet of white or colored paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • toothpick;
  • pencil.

How to make feathers with your own hands? Take a piece of paper, for a medium-sized feather, cut a piece about 15 by 10 cm.Fold it along and draw an arc with a sharp end near the fold. Feathers come in different sizes, some expand towards the end, and some remain even. Draw the shape of the future feather that you like. Cut along the contour.

It remains only to give the workpiece a finished look. Cut the edges into thin strips, moving from the sharp end at an angle downward. Do not cut too deep, 2/3 halves.

Feathers are fluffy and even. Add fluffiness to your feather if you wish, to do this, twist several ribbons of paper fringe in different directions.

You will need a toothpick for the feather shaft. Cut a ribbon a centimeter wide from the rest of the paper. Lubricate one side of the ribbon with glue and wrap it around a toothpick. You can also use a match. Glue the finished rod to the product at the inside fold. This will create a medium feather that you can use with ease.

Another way

How to make a feather with an unusual shape? For example, curved or Simple. You have several options. Draw a pen by hand, marking the cuts with thin strokes, or use ready-made printed stencils. Cut the feather gently with small nail scissors, a razor blade, or a utility knife.

Decor

You can of course leave the feathers white or cut them out of colored paper. But what if you want something bright, colorful, with tints?

The pen needs to be painted. Be careful, we are not paying attention to this topic for nothing. To get a vibrant feather, first color in the sheet from which it will be cut. The fact is that if you use markers or watercolors, the liquid will curl or soften your feathers and tear when awkwardly moving. Watercolor is a great way to create an iridescent leaf. You can also use a sponge or sponge to blur between colors.

Add sparkles, stars and lettering as soon as you cut out the feather, but it's better to decide on the color before using the scissors.

Material variations

Such feathers will definitely come in handy in decorations, in various crafts, for decorating gifts. How to make a feather attractive, presentable, unusual? What other material can you use to get something interesting? Use foil. It makes iridescent bright products.

Newspapers, pages of magazines and books will come in handy. Try to decorate your gift with feathers cut from old American newspapers or a music book.

Combine colors and materials for an interesting piece of jewelry. Good luck!

A feather is an unusual decorative element that can decorate an interior item, a theatrical and New Year's costume, a postcard or costume jewelry. Several pieces can be folded into a beautiful fan or wreath. And if the feather is green, then it easily turns into a miniature Christmas tree. There is no need to look for exotic birds and go to distant shores for jewelry. It is easy to make it yourself using the materials and tools found in every home. Read on for more details.

Features of creating a feather from yarn

To create a craft, you can use any thread, bobbin, floss, knitting yarn. The composition can also be different: wool, acrylic, cotton, combined. Depending on the use of the material, the result will vary. Feathers from threads of several colors look spectacular. We will consider the option of making a feather from yarn.

What do you need? Materials and tools

To craft a pen, prepare the following for work:

A step-by-step plan on how to make a feather from threads with your own hands

To get started, it is recommended to determine what the decoration will be used for, its size depends on it. If this is a future brooch or hairpin, then 4–5 cm is enough, for a hat or bag - from 10 to 15 cm, for a fan - up to 50 cm.

Reference. If you are more accustomed to working with fabric than with yarn, there is an option of making feathers from textiles. The procedure is the same, only the fan is formed from the fibers of the canvas used for work.

Even a child can make a feather from threads, the actions are simple and the materials are available. Your imagination will tell you how to use such a decoration. They are suitable for decorating clothes, accessories and interior gizmos.... Even if you can't think of anything - put the feathers in a flower vase, and your interior will become more interesting.

I doubted whether to put these "creations", but at work my colleagues-mothers got interested, and I photographed the manufacturing process, just in case, therefore, I submit to your judgment such an invention of mine, in an unusual "manner" for me, or rather technique.

She appeared, as always, in the process of working on flowers, tried to make greenery or twigs from threads.

For work you will need:

  • wire,
  • threads,
  • glue,
  • instead of a tube, you can take any base for winding. The wider it is, the larger the feathers will be.

Any threads (I have the thinnest). Later I realized that you can wind them on a ruler (not necessarily a round base), the main thing is that the center of the "trunk - feather" was in the middle of the base. We wrap the wire with a napkin or corrugated paper (grease it with glue), after a few turns we grease it again with glue (only the place where the wire itself is), and at the very end we also grease it. We wind so many threads in a circle (along the base) so that there are no gaps. And also IMPORTANT: let it dry well (before cutting). I was drying on a battery for half an hour. We cut it from the back side of the "trunk" (exactly opposite the wire), better with a pencil cutter (scissors are not very convenient.)

We glue the top with separate brushes (on the back of the feather). Yes, here is the advice I gave a rivet after my MK: "In order not to glue the top, bend the wire, insert a bundle of threads into the loop, twist the tip, you get a fan of threads." (I think it's more convenient ...)
Trim the lichen with scissors - creating a feather shape - of your choice.

We comb, paint with watercolors, glue sequins, in a word, what you have enough imagination for. ... Comb again with a fine comb, and spray with hairspray - for greater strength ...

This is an experiment with different threads ... I tried white threads last, of which feathers were born .... Before that, the greens "tortured")))))

You can make such Christmas trees (I added bead toys already in Photoshop)

The same principle is in these thistle flowers, which I am doing for a field bouquet (it is still in the project). How to sculpt these little white ones - I have it shown in

Is everything clear? First we wind one color, on top - another. Sepal - a little glue.

After the sepal is formed, we also varnish it.

Feathers - the girls-colleagues immediately folded into a fan. Or maybe hang it on a Christmas tree? Or maybe use for a carnival costume? I don't know ... I hope my idea will be used

If you are looking for exotic bird feathers, it is not at all necessary to look for them in distant lands. You can make these feathers yourself. Moreover, every home has everything you need!

In this master class, we will show you how to make feathers from thread with your own hands. For the base of the feathers, we need a wire. It can be any wire, for jewelry or for electricians, freed from insulation. Not the thinnest and not the thickest. We have a wire with a cross section of 0.6mm.

For the feathers you see in the picture, we used regular bobbin and floss threads (fig. 1). In general, any thread can be used for feathers, depending on the desired result. For example, woolen, acrylic, iris and others.

We made three different nibs. That is, the feathers themselves are made in exactly the same way, but their shape and color are different. By combining threads of different colors, you can achieve correspondingly different results.

Of the auxiliary tools, we need nippers, pliers, scissors, a ruler, a piece of cardboard, a comb, and one tablespoon of starch.

To create plumage, we prepare a cardboard template - a rectangle 9cm wide and 10-15cm long. Fold it in half. Our template is ready (Fig. 2).

We wind the threads on it - turn to turn (Fig. 3).

We cut the threads with scissors (Fig. 4).

We have got such equal lengths of threads (Fig. 5). Of these, we will make that part of the feather, which is called the fan.

So, we have prepared everything you need and proceed to create a pen. Our finished feathers are 18cm long.
Cut off a piece of wire 18-19cm long. We wrap 3.5-4 cm of wire with a thread in two layers - we wind the thread back and forth, starting five centimeters from the end of the wire. We tie and cut the ends of the thread, leaving the ends about 5 cm (Fig. 6).

Now we tie the pieces of thread (we took 2 threads together) with two knots on the wire and move them to the end of the wire twisted with a thread (Fig. 7). The process is not fast, so you need to be patient.

When we have 12 cm of wire filled with imposed pieces of thread, we seal them, moving them closer to each other. Cut off the excess wire, leaving 5-6mm open ends (fig. 8).

We bend these ends on both sides so that the threads do not crumble. When pressing the wire between the pliers and the threads, put paper or plastic wrap in order not to damage the threads (Fig. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13).

This is how the blank of the feather looks from the seamy side, that is, where the pressed wire is visible (Fig. 14).

And this is how it looks from the front side (Fig. 15).

The most time-consuming part of the work is over and we are starting to form the pen.

To do this, prepare a starch solution from 1 tablespoon of starch per 300 ml of water: boil 200 ml of water and pour starch mixed in 100 ml of cold water into it with constant stirring. Stir for about a minute until jelly is obtained. Spread the feather on the surface and apply the starch solution with a brush.

A thermos served as a surface. To prevent the feather from sticking to the surface, put a plastic bag or cling film under it (Fig. 16).

Apply a starch solution with a brush (fig. 17).

Then we take a comb and comb our feather, giving it the desired shape. After combing, the threads must be smoothed with the back of the combs. Then they will lie exactly, one to one, and not bulge (Fig. 18).

Leave the feather to dry completely.
Remove the dried feather. It has a convex shape (Fig. 19).

We describe the process of creating one nib, as they are all done in the same way, despite the obvious differences. We now have three blanks of feathers.

How to make thread feathers to look like real ones?
We arm ourselves with scissors and cut off all unnecessary, giving the feathers a neat shape. You can round off the top of the feathers to make them look more natural (Figure 20).

The shape of all the feathers turned out to be different (Fig. 21). This is because each feather indicates what shape it should be. You will see this for yourself when you start trimming them. Feathers can be slightly bent.

If you want to make specks, like on a blue feather (Fig. 22), you need to take PVA glue and a thread of the color that the specks should be. We fold the thread several times and cut it finely and finely with scissors. We take a brush and make dots with PVA glue on the pen. Sprinkle them with chopped thread. Press lightly and leave for 40 minutes until completely dry. We shake off the extra chopped threads, additionally removing them with a brush.

Using threads of different colors and textures, alternating them in accordance with your idea, you will get interesting, ordinary or unusual feathers that can be used in the interior, to decorate carnival costumes, gift wrapping and much more.
