How to maintain dyed hair color. How to properly wash your hair after dyeing to maintain color. Choose a mild shampoo for colored hair

The most common (and sad - taking into account the time and money spent) problem that we encounter after staining is not irritated scalp or split ends, but a dull dull color. Alexey Nagorskiy, creative partner of L'Oréal Professionnel told how to care for dyed hair so that after 10 days you won't have to regret going to the salon. We asked him the 5 most important questions regarding color protection, and received comprehensive answers.

Why does paint wash out so quickly?

Coloring is a chemical process when the natural pigment in the hair structure is replaced with an artificial one. The dye cannot be on the hair indefinitely: they are constantly exposed to too strong mechanical stress, due to which the artificial particles gradually "fall off", leaving them without pigment.

The base to which the dye is applied and the condition of the hair are the primary things to pay attention to before dyeing.

On porous and / or damaged hair the dye holds the worst of all, since their scales are open, and the pigment simply has nowhere to linger. On healthy (and even more so pristine from chemical experiments) hair, it will last longer ( read also: “Princesses also have problems with hair (we learn from their mistakes)”). Color retention also depends on the complementarity of the natural shade and color shade. If your hair is dark blond, and you dyed it chocolate, then with proper care you can keep the color until the next scheduled dyeing (3-4 weeks). With radical changes ─ moving from a dark base to a light one and vice versa ─ maintaining the result is many times more difficult.

Does the life of a color depend on the cost of the paint?

Yes, but maybe not in the way you thought. Home dyes are actually more persistent than professional dyes. Salon paints, even very persistent ones, contain less pigment than ordinary “home” ones: it is meant that the hairdresser-stylist collects color from several shades of dye, and does not dye the hair along the entire length and depth with one color. Generally speaking, the golden ones are best kept on the hair, brown shades, and reds, redheads and cold blond have a lower level of firmness.

Definitely not. Colored hair products do retain their color: they contain water-soluble silicones that envelop the hair and prevent pigment from leaving it quickly. It is good to use sulfate-free shampoos, which gently cleanse the hair, while minimizing the washing out of the artificial pigment.

Well, the most important rule is to use the scale to maintain the hair of the same brand as the dye (it doesn't matter what kind of dye it was - professional or homemade). Manufacturers, creating products, follow the recipe and the combination of components in the dye and the additional line. You cannot maintain professional coloring at a good level with shampoos and masks from the mass market ─ you will quickly become disappointed and, as a result, blame the stylist.

What care products should you have at home for those who regularly dye their hair?

Shampoo for colored hair - use with every wash;

Mask - 1-2 times a week;

Conditioner or any wash-off treatment - every time you wash your hair (but not on the day you use the mask);

Indelible care - after each shampooing;

Thermal protection - before blow-dry and styling.

Ideal when this must have is complemented by special tint agents: their pigments fill the voids formed after washing out the color with a similar dye and help to hold out relatively painlessly up to 1.5 months after dyeing.

How to properly care for colored hair?

The subsequent care after staining is of great importance for the preservation of the color. All hair restoration products reduce the level of dye durability, therefore, immediately after the "fresh" dyeing, the hair does not need to be restored (even if they require it, you need to wait a bit). For all types of coloring, nourishing and moisturizing lines are suitable, but not restoring the quality of the hair.

According to statistics, there are much more brunettes than blondes. It is believed that dark colored hair has more strength and thickness, which is why it gives the appearance of a lush and luxurious head of hair. Steps

Part 1

Taking care of colored hair in the shower

    Do not wash dyed hair earlier than 72 hours after dyeing. One of the first and biggest mistakes in looking after dyed hair is people wash their hair too soon after dyeing. When dyeing, the cuticles of the hair open up so that the dye can get into them. Therefore, the first step to maintaining color is to give your hair enough time for the cuticles to close completely before washing your hair. To do this, you need to wait 72 after dyeing and only then wash your hair.

    • You probably already know that hair loses some of the dye as its cuticles close. For this reason, during this period, it is necessary to wear dark clothes and use dark pillowcases on the pillows so as not to leave behind stains.
  1. Wash your hair less often. Even after the hair cuticles are closed, the shampoo will swell the hair and lose some of the dye. If you just wash your hair less often, you will keep your hair color for a longer time.

    Use special shampoos for colored hair. When in the shower, use a shampoo specially formulated for colored hair. Most hair product manufacturers currently have dedicated lines of shampoos and conditioners for color protection. They help keep the hair cuticles closed, which allows the dye to be trapped inside.

    Rinse your head cold water. This may sound like a joke, but rinsing your hair with cold water does help preserve the color. This is due to the fact that the hair cuticles are closed from cold water. Do not use hot water, since, on the contrary, it opens the cuticles, washing out the paint.

    Blot your hair gently with a towel to dry it. As you may have noticed, drying your dyed hair with a towel can easily ruin it. And coarse drying with a towel removes even more color from the hair, since the cuticles are still partially open due to the water that soaked the hair during the shower. If you just gently blot your hair with a towel, allowing it to dry on its own as much as possible, then it will not lose much dye.

    Consider installing a water filtration system. In most cases, hard, chlorinated water with a fairly large amount of minerals is supplied to the water supply system. If you regularly dye your hair and find the idea of water filtration warranted, consider installing such a system in the shower. It will cleanse the water from minerals and traces of chlorine that can wash dyes out of the hair.

    Use products specifically designed for colored hair. Many hair products contain ingredients that can dry out, lighten, or remove color from your hair. Look for products specifically designed for colored hair and be careful not to contain alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or ammonia, which can weaken your hair and wash away the dye. The products you choose for colored hair should also be appropriate for your hair type (for example, targeting fine, thick, oily, dry hair, etc.). This will help you keep your hair healthy and deal with the common effects of coloring, such as dryness and breakage.

    Apply a hair mask once a week. Keeping colored hair hydrated so it doesn't dry out is very important to its health. A weekly hair mask will help protect dark-colored hair. The product you use must necessarily contain aloe and not contain parabens. Leave the mask on your hair for an hour with a shower cap to help moisturizers saturate your hair.

    • If you prefer hot oil over ready-made masks for hair, this is also permissible. Just do not use both at once (except in cases of very dry hair), otherwise the hair will seem dirty.
  2. Avoid excess sun exposure. Ultraviolet rays are among the main enemies of hair dye. Even if you really want to flaunt luxurious curls in the light of sunlight, you need to reduce the effect of ultraviolet radiation on dyed hair. Use this limitation as a chance to dress up in your best sun hats.

    Use a no-rinse UV-absorbent hair protector. Obviously, no one is able to constantly avoid the sun. While this method is less effective than wearing hats and being in the shade, try to treat your hair with UV-absorbent products to help filter out UV rays.

    Beware of chlorine. In the summertime, the urge to go to the pool can overwhelm your common sense, even if you know full well that chlorine is extremely bad for dyed hair. For this reason, it is imperative to wet your hair with plain clean water before swimming in chlorinated water. This will reduce the amount of chlorine that can be absorbed into your hair from the pool water.
